Hello everyone,

Our company’s is growing and growing.
The quality of our renders improve.

We use Sketchup and Lumion for our Visualisation.

We have “a problem” for several months now.
The roof tiles.

The only option (for now) is using textures.
Ok, this is in 90% of the cases good enough, but our clients expect more.

We have been 3D modeling roof tiles and giving them a texture. But the problem is, the file will be to big to work in.

Sometimes I see beautiful roof tiles and I’m really wondering how they do it..

This image is of our company with texture roof:

This is one I found on the internet:

I understand it’s different software.
But maybe you can help us.

We believe this will take our quality to a next level 👌

I use Insta-Roof from Vali Architects and simply press the "add detail" to model it it builds the roof tiles. This is an extension for SketchUp. There are several roof styles to choose from.
The biggest difference in the sample you provided was it was a different style of roof tile.
I hope that makes sense....
Thanks Chuck

Ok thank you, i'll check this.
Do you have example renders of this?

Are you using a Displacement Map to add further height detail?

Here is an old topic on roof tiles, As you can see MPD_Jesse had a number of buildings with the roof tiles . He did upgrade his card to a RTX 2080 at the time, so there is or will be expected some impact form a much more detailed, heavier polygon model.
Some roof will benefit best from just using suitable texture maps, mainly because the overlays and tiles themselves are still relatively flat, others like the Spanish tiles certainly look great when modelled.

this topic is from more than 3 years ago.
I had hoped there would be some more and quicker solutions by now

So, as mentioned earlier, a roof tile like in your first post may not benefit that much from modelling. But certainly the last two reference images do/would.

It might also be possible to simplify the model if the tiling is made as a horizontal section (across the roof width) rather than individual tiles.

Have you also done a test with the roof tiles in the Lumion Material Library just to see what may work for the type of roof with the resolution and maps as provided?
